FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD IN THE SAINSBURYS MAGAZINE

Amongst the proliferation of food magazines available, the Sainsbury’s Magazine offers so much more than its supermarket title suggests.

For starters, the December 2012 issue has a wonderful selection of gift ideas covering every possible person you may be struggling to buy for this Christmas.  From retro phones and leather briefcases as the perfect gifts for the man in your life to sparkly fascinators and champagne buckets for women, the 8 page feature is a fantastic reference for anyone stuck for ideas for their nearest and dearest.
 
Gifts aside, the Sainsbury’s Magazine is, as you would expect, focused on food and the magazine draws in a range of high profile contributors.  The December issue is no different, with Raymond Blanc telling readers just what he would take to a desert island for the Castaway Cook feature and baking queen Rachel Allen’s recipes for celebratory Christmas cakes.  If you couldn’t quite choose between which chef’s cookbook to purchase to perfect your Christmas lunch then this title gives you great insights into some of the fantastic recipes which will be making their mark this festive season.

Rachel Allen’s pecan Yule log with caramel sauce is worth the cover price alone just to drool over the pictures of what looks like a particularly appetising and gooey dessert. There are plenty of recipe choices to please any palate including seasonal dishes for vegetarians (spinach, wensleydale and toasted hazelnut wellington is a particular highlight!).  Another feature showcases a selection of festive feasts from well-known chefs including James Martin and Rick Stein – offering their own alternative to Turkey on Christmas day.  Traditionalists might scoff but Rick Steins recipe for roast rack of lamb with crushed new potatoes and caramelised garlic would be welcome on any seasonal menu. 

A particular highlight of the December issue is the ‘flavours of Christmas’, taking the five key ingredients of Cranberries, Chocolate, Salmon, Citrus and Stilton and delivering a range of tasty recipe ideas.  Nigella Lawson provides the inspiration for the chocolate section and what a perfect cook to showcase the glutinous, rich recipes for chocolate at Christmas time.  Nigella’s chilli cinnamon chocolate pudding is just one of the many unique ideas in this feature.
 
All recipes in the Sainsbury’s magazine even come with a selection of wine suggestions (available instore of course) to help you impress others with your excellent wine knowledge even if wine tasting is not quite your thing. 

And if that isn’t enough, the magazine has a selection of discount to use in store which lets face it, at this financially challenging time of year is a particularly welcome addition.
